Tag: Beauty Love Affair

Welcome to the Beauty Love Affair tag. We know you're not the kind to kiss and tell; but we want to know. We want the juiciest stories about your current love. Tell us about your worst heartbreaks. Give us the juicy details of your steamiest affair. We want to know if it was love it first sight. Tell us who turned out to be a total jerk. Confide in us about your sweetest temptation. Don't worry, this isn't about the men; it's all about your Beauty Love Affair.

I was tagged by Lauren at Will Sing For Makeup. Her blog is absolutely fantastic, and she is one of the kindest people I've met through here! The Beauty Love Affair tag was created by Saffron Lallem of Saffy Style, Ashley Maria of Ashley Maria, Love, Life, Beauty andShalunya of Shalunya & Boyet. They would love to read your answers so please feel free to tag them on Google + or leave a comment on their blogs.

The Rules:
1. Answer each question with the name of a beauty product and, if you'd like, explain why.
2. Give out more Valentines (tag other bloggers).
3. If you are tagged more than once please feel free to answer the questions again using a different type of product. If you answered the first time with skincare, then answer again with an eye, lip, face, nails, or hair product.

First Love
Oh.. You remember what it was like to fall in love for the first time. Such bliss and excitement! Who was your first love?
Rimmel Soft Khol Kajal eyeliner pencil in jet black. They are cheap, fantastically pigmented and as black as they come. I used to get through SO many of these in my goth phase...

Puppy Love
Before you knew your real love, there were those childhood crushes that sometimes blossomed into a cute puppy love. Who was yours?

I used to have a lip balm that was similar to this (it was the same colour but in different packaging) that smelt divine and was from my favourite person in the world - Barbie! It was terrible for hydrating but I loved it anyway.

Love Triangle
Such a predicament. This one is so sweet and demure, but this one is so bold and sexy. Tell us about being torn between two lovers. Who were the players in your love triangle?
I can NEVER make my mind up between these two mascaras. They're both absolutely fantastic (I really think Max Factor is the king of mascaras) and both for different reasons. The Masterpiece Max is a more natural look, but False Lash Effect is a full on dramatic look. I just can't make up my mind between the two.

Current Love

Dating? Engaged? Married? Who is your main squeeze? Tell us about the one you can't live without or can't seem to let go of. Who is your current love?
Lush Celestial moisturiser. I cannot live without it at the moment. I have super dry, flaky skin all year round (thank you, dad, for passing it on to me) and this moisturiser restores the hydration in the skin as well as creating a barrier of moisture to prevent further dryness during the day. I'm not going to go into too much detail because a full review of this product will be coming up soon.

Secret Crush
Even though you're committed to your current love, looking around and admiring from afar never hurt anyone... Who are you secretly crushing on?
Illamasqua Hydra Veil primer. As previously mentioned, my skin is super dry, and this gel based primer looks like it'll really do the job. Not too sure about it though - it's expensive and might not work. Sample time!

Blind Date
Which was The One that was introduced by a friend or mailbox company e.g Ipsy that you love?
This beautiful body butter came to me in the form of a Glossybox sample, and it is possibly the nicest thing I've ever smelt. It's also incredibly hydrating, which is what I need it for. Absolutely fantastic product.

Steamy Affair
Which was The One that you left your steadfast regular for; the sexy, handsome one that caught your eye and had you hooked in a Steamy Affair?
I was very faithful to my Rimmel Stay Matte, and then I tried this. It's velvety soft, creamy, and translucent enough to not look like you're wearing powder, but it also has a little bit of coverage for that airbrushed look. Amazing.

Sweet Temptation
Which was The One that has snagged your attention but you are only tempted by, you don't know yet whether you want a Steamy Affair or not with?
Lime Crime "Oh No She Didn't" lipstick. I love the colour and love wearing bold, bright and unusual lips... but I have a real problem with the way she runs her company and her customer service issues. I don't want to give my money to her, but this colour...

Love At First Sight
You saw it and immediately you loved it.
MAC Impassioned lipstick. It's incredible. And I needed it. And I actually won a giveaway and won this lipstick. And it's amazing. And... and... and... NO WORDS, I TELL YOU!

Double Date
They came in a box set; two great things for the price of one.
Urban Decay Naked 3 palette with the amazing samples of the different types of primer potion, and a really nice brush to go with it. I know some people don't get along with it, but I really do. This was a fantastic deal!

Friend Zone
You just knew he was amazing; but he's not all that. Who have you relegated to the friend zone?
How absolutely stunning is this colour? I adored it from the moment I saw it. Bought it, tried it, and it just did not suit my skin tone whatsoever. For now I just admire it from afar, because it's one of my favourite colours and yet looks awful on me :(

Worst Breakup
You wanted to love him forever; but you quickly discovered that he was not 'Mr. Right.' In fact he was awful and broke your heart. Who was your worst breakup?
This foundation was the first foundation I ever tried and I was really excited about it. Until I put it on. Then it was patchy, orange toned, it oxidised horribly, barely covered anything, highlighted all of my dry patches. Just awful. It was thrown away after one use.

Total Loser
You were giddy when he asked you out. You had high hopes for a long relationship. Instead he was a complete dud. Who was your total loser?
L'oreal True Match foundation. Just... no. This clung to every single dry area of my face and it felt like I was pulling on my skin instead of it gliding over the top of it all silky and smooth. As soon as I put it on, not only did it accentuate dry flakes, but it was also patchy and uneven no matter how I attempted to apply it. I am also incredibly pale and neutral undertoned, and this foundation made me look yellow. Not just a little bit yellow, but full on Simpson yellow.

I couldn't wait to get this off of my face and I have since thrown it away, after trying it with a variety of different moisturisers and primers beforehand, and using a variety of different methods to apply it, it was still an awful awful foundation. However, the shade range is fantastic for most. Just not for me. I also like that the version in the UK comes with the pump bottle so you don't end up with too much wasted product and it's more hygienic in the long run.

Long Lost Love
You were young and he was among your firsts. You grew, you moved on, you two lost touch with each other. Recently you bumped into each other again and you remembered all the reasons you liked him. Who is your long lost love?
Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick in Frozen Rose. It's fabulous. Creamy, really good colour, not badly scented. Honestly I don't even know why I stopped using this. Beautiful "my lips but better" shade.

Major Lust
You haven't yet met. You're just loving him from afar because you feel like he's out of your league. Who is your major lust?
YSL Youth Liberator Serum Foundation. LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL IT IS. I need this in my life more than I need air to breathe. Yep.

This tag was SO much fun to do. It really brought back some memories for me haha. Most people I would tag have already done this, so instead I'll just tag each and every one of you who wants to take part. Make sure to leave me your links, I'd love to read your posts! :)

Thanks so much for reading,

Liebster Award!

The absolutely AMAZING Claire at Sprinkle of Claire has nominated me for a Liebster award, and honestly I'm rather touched by it. The Liebster award is an award that is given to new blogs with under 200 followers, and it sort of helps promote them and give them some recognition. It's hard to break into the world of beauty blogging, and I think it's the little touches like these that really make you feel like part of the community and part of something huge, you know what I mean? I just think it's really sweet, so thank you so much for nominating me :) You really should go and check out Claire's blog, it's really detailed and in-depth. I really love it. Plus her layout is really cute, too! But anyway, enough of me rambling, let's get onto those all-important rules and questions.

The Rules
1.You must link the person who nominated you
2.You must answer the 11 questions set by the blogger who nominated you
3.You can't nominate the person who nominated you
4.You have to choose 11 people to nominate with under 200 followers
5.You must tell the nominees they have been nominated
6. You must write 11 facts about yourself.

The Questions
1. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I've always had really low self esteem and very little confidence in myself. I thought if I could be a part of a community, I'd make some friends and finally come out of my shell a little bit. I've always loved writing and am actually a freelance journalist for magazines, so it just seemed natural to me to start a blog about something I actually enjoy and am passionate about.

2. Where do you see yourself in a year's time?
Just trying to do my best, as always. I don't like to set myself goals or try and think about where I'll be in the future, because really, who knows? I could be in Japan or something. I just want to continue to do my best and try and make some more friends in the blogging community, I think :)

3. Favourite beauty product?
If we're talking about favourite type of beauty product, mine would definitely be lipstick. I could wear nothing but lipstick and be eternally happy. If we're talking a specific product, I'd say my favourite beauty product ever would be MAC Violetta lipstick. I just find it can work with any outfit, occasion or season. I adore it on my pale complexion as well.

4. Favourite blog?
I cannot pick just one. I love so many blogs, but I absolutely adore Charlotte at Makeup by Candlelight. Her blog posts are insightful, varied in content which keeps it interesting, and most importantly of all, honest. If she doesn't like something, she'll say it straight, and I love that. So yeah, you should go and check her blog out!

5. Tea or coffee?
Tea. Always tea. Especially if it's Earl Grey with two sweeteners. Yes, I like sweet tea.

6. Favourite hobbies?
Reading, writing and candle lighting. Hey, that rhymed!

7. Skirts or shorts?
Neither, preferably. I much prefer leggings and jeans. But if I had to pick out of the two, I'd definitely say shorts. I feel more comfortable in shorts, knowing that I can move without the fear of scaring someone with a crotch view or something.

8. What Item Can't You Live Without?
I could live without all of my material items quite happily, except maybe clothes. I wouldn't want to be naked for life. All I need is my family, as little as it is. Family and clothes. Yep.

9. What is your favourite post on your blog?
Probably my 10 Beauty Mistakes I Used to Make post. It was so fun to write and other people seemed to really enjoy reading it, and that's the most important thing to me. As long as my readers are happy, I'm happy.

10. What can we expect from your blog in the future?
I have so much planned! I'm planning on going to the states, so there'll be US hauls and reviews on brands not readily available in the UK (Tarte here I come!), and other tags and lots and lots to review. Maybe even collection posts and storage posts. I really do have too much planned and not enough time to write it all down haha.

11. How are you?
I'm very well thank you, and I hope all of you who are reading are doing well also ^_^

11 Facts About Me
1. I'm a type 1 diabetic. The genetic kind.
2. I read more than is probably healthy for me. For example, it is half five in the morning and my book is too good to go to sleep.
3. I am a total and utter geek/nerd and everything in between. I love Lord of the Rings and Pokémon.
4. Despite being nearly 20, I still love classic Disney films, and will sing along very loudly.
5. I'm a law student, hoping to become a Crown Prosecutor one day.
6. I have 16 piercings and 4 tattoos.
7. Pasta is my favourite food of all time.
8. I often will start a new TV series and watch it all the way through, with breaks only to eat and sleep.
9. I collect stuffed animals, mostly TY Beanie Babies and have over 500 of them.
10. I'm a chronic insomniac, often not sleeping for a couple of days at a time.
11. My dad and brother mean everything to me. They're the only family I have and I adore them. I'd do anything for them.

The Questions
1. What is your favourite vintage time scale?
2. What is your favourite candle/favourite candle scent?
3. What advice would you give new bloggers starting out?
4. What is your most embarrassing moment?
5. What is the best purchase you've ever made that is beauty related?
6. You are stuck on a deserted island, what three beauty items would you take with you?
7. What is your main aim for blogging?
8. Do you collect anything?
9. Are you a morning person or a night person?
10. Who is your favourite band/artist in terms of music?
11. Why did you start blogging?

Tag: Would you rather? - beauty edition

Hello beautiful readers! The wonderful Charlotte from Makeup by Candlelight tagged me in this rather humorous game of choices, and I just knew I had to take part! It's a bit cruel, a bit hard, and a bit silly all at the same time. So without further ado: the questions!

1) Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lipglosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?
I don't particularly like wearing eyeshadow and really only have one palette that I use, so I'd definitely rather lose the palettes and eyeshadows. Lipsticks are my life, as are mascaras. I just love a nude eye and bold lips, so losing eyeshadows won't bother me in the slightest. *brave face* (I'm just trying to be brave, please don't take my eyeshadows :'( )

2) Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
Never be able to cut it again. I went six years without even getting a trim once, so I suppose I could live with not cutting it again as long as I took good care of it :3 Plus short hair really doesn't suit me. I don't like either option though >.<
3) Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
Pink, definitely. I think both are beautiful in different circumstances or situations, but I just love love love a pink cheek. There's something youthful and natural about a rosy glow :)

4) If you had £1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?
Do shoes count as clothes? I could easily spend £1000 on shoes. But I also could on make up. AHH this is a hard question. Um. Clothes/shoes. Yes. Clothes/shoes.
5) Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?
The thing about applying lipstick as eyeliner is that it'll smudge like mad and end up everywhere. So I'd much rather apply eyeliner as lipstick. I used to when I was in my teenage "goth" phase to get a truly matte black lip anyway haha.

6) Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
I don't think we have Sephora in the UK... but if we did, I'd definitely say Sephora. You can get a multitude of brands at Sephora but MAC only sells MAC, and the only thing I really buy from MAC are the lipsticks and the paint pots. So definitely Sephora.

7) Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?
One eyshadow colour for sure, because then I get to wear as many lip colours as I want

8) Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?
It's a tricky question for me since I love summer and the warmer it is, the better and I'm usually happiest when I'm deep in a desert somewhere, however my most favorite type of outfit is my autumn and winter uniform of leather leggings in varying colors, a jumper and a statement necklace and it's with great sadness that I pack away my leather trousers in the Summer. So I would need to say that I'll wear my winter clothes all year around - and sit in the shades...

9) Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?
Dark nails. I just feel that dark nail colours suit my pasty white complexion more than pastels or bright colours do. Bright/pastels tend to wash them out a bit.

10) Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?
Hmm... The most difficult question (and funnily enough I saved this one 'til last). My favourite eye product would be my Max Factor Masterpiece Max mascara... My favourite lip product would be MAC Violetta lipstick. I think I'd rather give up my favourite eye product. I have dark eyelashes anyway and they're pretty long, so although mascara does make them look nicer, I guess I could live without it. BUT PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME CHOOOOOOOOSE!

11) Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?
A messy bun! I love the chic/slightly grunge look that a messy bun can give. You can dress is up or down and is much more versatile than a ponytail. I also think it's a little bit more grown up than a ponytail. I had a ponytail pretty much throughout my primary school days and now it just reminds me of that. So always a messy bun, please!

12) Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?
Never use lipgloss. I. Hate. Lipgloss. Even if they're not sticky, they're usually slimy, and I just don't think they look good on me. I don't mind a lipstick with a slightly glossy finish (like a cremesheen or a glaze from MAC) but a full on gloss is just not me at all. So I'd happily never use lipgloss, since I don't ever use it anyway haha.

13) Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?
My eyebrows are rather thin on the outer corners but thick in the middle corners, so I'd much rather sharpie them in every day to actually give myself eyebrows than shave them all off entirely. It really is surprising how much they frame your face, and I'd rather have pen eyebrows than no eyebrows. Whoopi Goldberg can pull it off, I can't.

14) Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?
I guess nail polish, because that's only one thing. If I were to give up make up I'd have to give up EVERYTHING, lipstick, mascara, blush. If I gave up nail polish I'd just have naked nails instead of naked everything else, so I think it's a fair trade :3

I'd like to tag these people and find out what they'd choose! I also tag each and every one of you who reads this if you would like to take part. Post your links below and I'll be sure to read each and every one of them :)

Thanks so much for reading,
Kerry x

Tag: 10 Beauty Mistakes I Used To Make

Oh here we go. The most embarrassing of secrets a beauty lover could make. The oddest make up anyone had ever seen. And now I bear all to you. I was tagged by the lovely Belle over at Mascara and Maltesers and just knew I had to take part. It's such a fun tag! So here it goes:

1. Wearing more eyeliner under the lower lash line than on the top of the top lash line.
Basically wearing more eyeliner underneath my eye than above it. Yep, I used to try and pull this look off, and to this day I still don't understand why. It was during my gothic phase, but still can't think of why I'd wear more underneath than on top. Ah well.

2. Wearing red eyeliner on my waterline.
I looked ill. Or incredibly tired. Or both. It wasn't a good look, and I don't recommend anyone else do it either. My dad used to tell me not to do it, and now I wish I'd listened to him.

3. Go out with mascara all over my eyelid.
We've all been there. Opening your eyes too quickly after applying your mascara, and getting eyelash imprints on your brow bone from the mascara, or maybe you've accidentally pressed against your eyelid when applying it and it's gone everywhere. I never used to bother cleaning it up, and just used to go out with it all over my face. Not a good look at all.

4. Not blending my foundation down my jaw/neck.
Yep, I was one of those. Having a distinct line where my foundation ended and my neck began was one of my daily looks. Not that it was intentional, mind you. I just didn't know I had to blend it down my neck/jaw. Oh how I cringe now thinking about it.

5. Wearing way too much blusher.
I always looked like I'd run three miles while coating my face in beetroot juice or something. Nowadays I'm not afraid to wear a bold blush and think it can look stunning if applied properly, but wearing so much blush that it looks as though you're in a constant state of embarrassment isn't for me. I blush easily anyway, so add that to too much blusher and you have a recipe for disaster.

6. Never shaping my eyebrows.
I think this is the one that embarrasses me the most. Naturally, I have quite a nice shaped brow, but I have a really thin outer corner naturally and quite a few stray hairs that just go every direction and whatnot. This meant that it looked as though I had less hair on the actual brow than I did on the surrounding areas of the brow. It looked like a negative space brow, which was really odd.

7. Not getting my hair cut for 6 years.
Nope, not even a trim. I loved my long hair that I could actually sit on, and refused to get my hair cut for a good six years. By the time I eventually got a trim, I had to have about 8 inches removed from the bottom of my hair just to get to the healthy and non-split parts. Nowadays I get my hair cut religiously every month.

8. Buying whatever shampoo/conditioner was the cheapest.
I always thought that every shampoo was created equal, the same as every conditioner was created equal. So I just used to go to the supermarket and buy whatever was on offer or whatever was cheapest. Nowadays I stick to my Dove Hair Therapy Nourishing Oil Care shampoo and conditioner, even if it isn't the cheapest around.

9. Never cleansing/toning my face.
Yep, I never used to cleanse or tone my face. I mean, I shower every day and always have, but you still don't get that lovely fresh faced feeling of a fully cleansed face. I didn't even use to use soap on my face in the shower, so really my face only ever had water trickling over it and the odd slick of shampoo that ran down it. Eurgh that sounds so gross to me now.

10. Putting on waaaaaaaaaaay too many coats of mascara.
Six inch thick, 20lb eyelashes were my forte back in the days of high school. Okay that may be a little bit of an exaggeration, but they were pretty thick, and pretty heavy to boot. I used to put so many coats of mascara on my lashes that you could literally snap them in half. Although I do love a dramatic look, I'd rather just put on some natural looking fake lashes for day time than ever go through that again.

So there we have it! My 10 beauty mistakes I used to make. I tag anyone and everyone who wants to take part, so lemme know what yours are! I'd love to read about them :)
