Liebster Award!

The absolutely AMAZING Claire at Sprinkle of Claire has nominated me for a Liebster award, and honestly I'm rather touched by it. The Liebster award is an award that is given to new blogs with under 200 followers, and it sort of helps promote them and give them some recognition. It's hard to break into the world of beauty blogging, and I think it's the little touches like these that really make you feel like part of the community and part of something huge, you know what I mean? I just think it's really sweet, so thank you so much for nominating me :) You really should go and check out Claire's blog, it's really detailed and in-depth. I really love it. Plus her layout is really cute, too! But anyway, enough of me rambling, let's get onto those all-important rules and questions.

The Rules
1.You must link the person who nominated you
2.You must answer the 11 questions set by the blogger who nominated you
3.You can't nominate the person who nominated you
4.You have to choose 11 people to nominate with under 200 followers
5.You must tell the nominees they have been nominated
6. You must write 11 facts about yourself.

The Questions
1. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I've always had really low self esteem and very little confidence in myself. I thought if I could be a part of a community, I'd make some friends and finally come out of my shell a little bit. I've always loved writing and am actually a freelance journalist for magazines, so it just seemed natural to me to start a blog about something I actually enjoy and am passionate about.

2. Where do you see yourself in a year's time?
Just trying to do my best, as always. I don't like to set myself goals or try and think about where I'll be in the future, because really, who knows? I could be in Japan or something. I just want to continue to do my best and try and make some more friends in the blogging community, I think :)

3. Favourite beauty product?
If we're talking about favourite type of beauty product, mine would definitely be lipstick. I could wear nothing but lipstick and be eternally happy. If we're talking a specific product, I'd say my favourite beauty product ever would be MAC Violetta lipstick. I just find it can work with any outfit, occasion or season. I adore it on my pale complexion as well.

4. Favourite blog?
I cannot pick just one. I love so many blogs, but I absolutely adore Charlotte at Makeup by Candlelight. Her blog posts are insightful, varied in content which keeps it interesting, and most importantly of all, honest. If she doesn't like something, she'll say it straight, and I love that. So yeah, you should go and check her blog out!

5. Tea or coffee?
Tea. Always tea. Especially if it's Earl Grey with two sweeteners. Yes, I like sweet tea.

6. Favourite hobbies?
Reading, writing and candle lighting. Hey, that rhymed!

7. Skirts or shorts?
Neither, preferably. I much prefer leggings and jeans. But if I had to pick out of the two, I'd definitely say shorts. I feel more comfortable in shorts, knowing that I can move without the fear of scaring someone with a crotch view or something.

8. What Item Can't You Live Without?
I could live without all of my material items quite happily, except maybe clothes. I wouldn't want to be naked for life. All I need is my family, as little as it is. Family and clothes. Yep.

9. What is your favourite post on your blog?
Probably my 10 Beauty Mistakes I Used to Make post. It was so fun to write and other people seemed to really enjoy reading it, and that's the most important thing to me. As long as my readers are happy, I'm happy.

10. What can we expect from your blog in the future?
I have so much planned! I'm planning on going to the states, so there'll be US hauls and reviews on brands not readily available in the UK (Tarte here I come!), and other tags and lots and lots to review. Maybe even collection posts and storage posts. I really do have too much planned and not enough time to write it all down haha.

11. How are you?
I'm very well thank you, and I hope all of you who are reading are doing well also ^_^

11 Facts About Me
1. I'm a type 1 diabetic. The genetic kind.
2. I read more than is probably healthy for me. For example, it is half five in the morning and my book is too good to go to sleep.
3. I am a total and utter geek/nerd and everything in between. I love Lord of the Rings and Pokémon.
4. Despite being nearly 20, I still love classic Disney films, and will sing along very loudly.
5. I'm a law student, hoping to become a Crown Prosecutor one day.
6. I have 16 piercings and 4 tattoos.
7. Pasta is my favourite food of all time.
8. I often will start a new TV series and watch it all the way through, with breaks only to eat and sleep.
9. I collect stuffed animals, mostly TY Beanie Babies and have over 500 of them.
10. I'm a chronic insomniac, often not sleeping for a couple of days at a time.
11. My dad and brother mean everything to me. They're the only family I have and I adore them. I'd do anything for them.

The Questions
1. What is your favourite vintage time scale?
2. What is your favourite candle/favourite candle scent?
3. What advice would you give new bloggers starting out?
4. What is your most embarrassing moment?
5. What is the best purchase you've ever made that is beauty related?
6. You are stuck on a deserted island, what three beauty items would you take with you?
7. What is your main aim for blogging?
8. Do you collect anything?
9. Are you a morning person or a night person?
10. Who is your favourite band/artist in terms of music?
11. Why did you start blogging?

Nail Art Weekly Project - Week Two, TV or Film

So a little recap in case you didn't catch the first post; the nail art weekly project was thought up by the lovely Danni at gingerbreadsmiles and is a weekly manicure project with set themes each week. Well it's week two already, with the theme of TV or film, and oh boy do I love this week. I've thought about what to do for this week for quite a while, and I just had to dedicate it to my favourite film of all time, Beauty and the Beast (Disney version). I grew up with this film and used to watch it all day, every day, for a good few months. Every time it finished, I just hit play again. I actually wore out my VHS copy of it, can you believe that?!

This is the image I based my manicure on:

And here's the manicure I came up with:

So what do you think? The stamping didn't come out perfectly, but it was a fun little project and I'm relatively pleased with the end result overall :) What have you come up with for this week of the #nailartweeklyproject?

Tag: Would you rather? - beauty edition

Hello beautiful readers! The wonderful Charlotte from Makeup by Candlelight tagged me in this rather humorous game of choices, and I just knew I had to take part! It's a bit cruel, a bit hard, and a bit silly all at the same time. So without further ado: the questions!

1) Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lipglosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?
I don't particularly like wearing eyeshadow and really only have one palette that I use, so I'd definitely rather lose the palettes and eyeshadows. Lipsticks are my life, as are mascaras. I just love a nude eye and bold lips, so losing eyeshadows won't bother me in the slightest. *brave face* (I'm just trying to be brave, please don't take my eyeshadows :'( )

2) Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
Never be able to cut it again. I went six years without even getting a trim once, so I suppose I could live with not cutting it again as long as I took good care of it :3 Plus short hair really doesn't suit me. I don't like either option though >.<
3) Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
Pink, definitely. I think both are beautiful in different circumstances or situations, but I just love love love a pink cheek. There's something youthful and natural about a rosy glow :)

4) If you had £1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?
Do shoes count as clothes? I could easily spend £1000 on shoes. But I also could on make up. AHH this is a hard question. Um. Clothes/shoes. Yes. Clothes/shoes.
5) Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?
The thing about applying lipstick as eyeliner is that it'll smudge like mad and end up everywhere. So I'd much rather apply eyeliner as lipstick. I used to when I was in my teenage "goth" phase to get a truly matte black lip anyway haha.

6) Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
I don't think we have Sephora in the UK... but if we did, I'd definitely say Sephora. You can get a multitude of brands at Sephora but MAC only sells MAC, and the only thing I really buy from MAC are the lipsticks and the paint pots. So definitely Sephora.

7) Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?
One eyshadow colour for sure, because then I get to wear as many lip colours as I want

8) Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?
It's a tricky question for me since I love summer and the warmer it is, the better and I'm usually happiest when I'm deep in a desert somewhere, however my most favorite type of outfit is my autumn and winter uniform of leather leggings in varying colors, a jumper and a statement necklace and it's with great sadness that I pack away my leather trousers in the Summer. So I would need to say that I'll wear my winter clothes all year around - and sit in the shades...

9) Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?
Dark nails. I just feel that dark nail colours suit my pasty white complexion more than pastels or bright colours do. Bright/pastels tend to wash them out a bit.

10) Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?
Hmm... The most difficult question (and funnily enough I saved this one 'til last). My favourite eye product would be my Max Factor Masterpiece Max mascara... My favourite lip product would be MAC Violetta lipstick. I think I'd rather give up my favourite eye product. I have dark eyelashes anyway and they're pretty long, so although mascara does make them look nicer, I guess I could live without it. BUT PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME CHOOOOOOOOSE!

11) Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?
A messy bun! I love the chic/slightly grunge look that a messy bun can give. You can dress is up or down and is much more versatile than a ponytail. I also think it's a little bit more grown up than a ponytail. I had a ponytail pretty much throughout my primary school days and now it just reminds me of that. So always a messy bun, please!

12) Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?
Never use lipgloss. I. Hate. Lipgloss. Even if they're not sticky, they're usually slimy, and I just don't think they look good on me. I don't mind a lipstick with a slightly glossy finish (like a cremesheen or a glaze from MAC) but a full on gloss is just not me at all. So I'd happily never use lipgloss, since I don't ever use it anyway haha.

13) Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?
My eyebrows are rather thin on the outer corners but thick in the middle corners, so I'd much rather sharpie them in every day to actually give myself eyebrows than shave them all off entirely. It really is surprising how much they frame your face, and I'd rather have pen eyebrows than no eyebrows. Whoopi Goldberg can pull it off, I can't.

14) Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?
I guess nail polish, because that's only one thing. If I were to give up make up I'd have to give up EVERYTHING, lipstick, mascara, blush. If I gave up nail polish I'd just have naked nails instead of naked everything else, so I think it's a fair trade :3

I'd like to tag these people and find out what they'd choose! I also tag each and every one of you who reads this if you would like to take part. Post your links below and I'll be sure to read each and every one of them :)

Thanks so much for reading,

January Favourites!

Well it's February already, and I can hardly believe how fast the time is going. They say as you get older, the time goes quicker, and although I'm only 19 I can say that they are definitely right! But anyway, it's now the beginning February, which means it's the end of January, and that can only mean one thing. January favourites post! My first ever monthly favourites post, too, so this is exciting stuff. I'd better make it a good one. I have a range of skincare and make up, some of which will have been posted on my blog before but I'll go into more detail. So let's start with the skincare!

Oh my lord this is heaven in a little black tub. I adore the scent of it - it smells like soft vanilla with a hint of rose. As I have mentioned before, I have incredibly dry skin, and instead of just soaking into your skin to give you a bit of extra moisture, this moisturiser actually creates a sort of barrier on your skin that keeps it moist for hours, and yet doesn't feel sticky or greasy. It creates a gorgeous, dewy look. I just can't fault it. It also contains almond oil which is absolutely fantastic for hydrating skin and keeping it hydrated.

The first thing I have to say about this is that it definitely will not appeal to everyone. It is very strongly scented and the scent lasts a very long time, so if you don't like strong scents under your nose for a prolonged period then this isn't for you. I, however, absolutely LOVE it! It's a solid bar that you rub between your hands and as it warms up, it creates an oil like substance which you then rub all over your face and massage in. It's fantastic as a pre-treatment for a face mask because it increases the effectiveness, but it's also great as a night cream which is how I've been using it. It smells very strongly of rose. It contains far too many fantastic ingredients to go into detail on them, so here's the ingredients list:
Murumuru Butter, Calamine Powder, Cupuacu Butter, Fresh Rose Petal Infusion, Organic Almond Oil, Perfume, Fresh Portobello Mushrooms, Chamomile Blue Oil, Rose Oil, Tagetes Oil, *Eugenol,*Geraniol, *Benzyl Benzoate, *Benzyl Cinnamate,*Citronellol, *Limonene, *Linalool

*occurs naturally in essential oils

The thing I love most about this scrub is the scent. It smells very fresh, reminding me of cucumbers and Aloe Vera but it is also incredibly feminine. It's what I'd call a very delicate scent. The scrub itself is mild so it can be used every day without irritating the skin at all or causing scratches or soreness. It also contains moringa oil which is fabulous at hydrating, and is something my skin desperately needs. If used after washing, I've also found that the scent lasts a surprising amount of time (although that may have something to do with the moringa body butter I use afterwards haha).

That's it for my skincare. I've loved so much this month that it's hard to narrow down, so I decided to just stick with my top three or I'd be rambling on for a year and a day. Which means it now boils down to the make up/beauty section, and oh boy do I have some exciting things here.

The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette - £37
I absolutely adore this palette, but then again you've probably seen a million and one reviews and swatches of it by now so you know what it's about. I much prefer a neutral eye and a bold lip as an everyday look, so this can create both feminine and delicate looks without being over the top if required. Rose gold is also one of my favourite colours so this palette is a must for me. All of the eyeshadows are buttery and creamy, and all of them show up really well on my skin tone. This has been my favourite for the last couple of months, not just January.

Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24 Hour Cream Gel Eyeshadow in Pink Gold - £4.99
Although this eyeshadow has possibly the longest name known to man, I absolutely adore this colour. I usually it it as a base for my Naked 3 looks but if I'm in a rush or just fancy a slight pop of colour then one quick swipe across my lids is enough to achieve that. And honestly I think the 24 hour claim is 100% accurate - I got in really late the other day and fell asleep in my make up, and when I woke up my eyeshadow was still in the exact same condition as it was when I fell asleep. It impresses me, and makes me want to try the MAC Paint Pots even more. This is my second one of these, that's how much I love it!

Lypsyl Lip Balm in Strawberry - £1.35
One of the cheapest lip balms there are, and also the most effective lip balm I've ever tried. I have this in a multitude of flavours and each and every one is simply perfect. It hydrates and soothes the lips and smells amazing. My lips are soft as a baby's... well you get the idea. For the price, I can't fault it.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation in 51 Vanille Clair - £10.99
I much prefer a dewy finish in a foundation, and I much prefer a medium coverage as I don't really have blemishes but I do have redness. This foundation gives me both of those and blends seamlessly into the face so it doesn't even look like you're wearing any. It also manages to glide over all of my dry skin with ease. The wear time isn't that great, but I really don't mind touching up during the day. I've worn it every day without fail and I adore it.

Benefit Benetint - £24.50
Now I know this seems really steep for a tiny bottle of liquid stain, but keep in mind that mine has lasted me over a year. You literally only need three tiny dots of it and it gives you such a rosy glow and it lasts for the entire day. Plus it smells like roses. There's nothing I don't like about this, and I have my eye on the Lollitint one they've just released. The colour might look a bit daunting in the bottle, but it comes off quite subtly on the face. It can, however, be built up for a stronger colour.

Max Factor Masterpiece Max Mascara - £9.99
This is my holy grail mascara. It lengthens, defines and volumises while not clumping or looking spidery. It looks dramatic but not unnaturally so. I much prefer a rubber brush to a bristle brush, and this one has that and is thin enough to get the little tiny hairs in the corner of your eyes. Absolutely perfect mascara, although I am going to try False Lash Effect when this one dries up.

MAC Violetta Amplified  Lipstick (Pro colour) - £15
Unfortunately I can't find a link to this online besides eBay or the US version of the site which doesn't ship to the UK. I bought it at a MAC Pro store in London and you can't get the pro line of products on the UK site. But all that aside, I absolutely adore this colour. It's the first purple lipstick I've ever tried and suits my pale skin perfectly. It's creamy and moisturising. It's not particularly long lasting, though, but I don't mind reapplying as it's so quick and easy because it just glides over the lips and gives you the magnificent pop of colour in one swipe. LOVE this lipstick.

So that's it for my make up picks this month. Now for a couple of random lifestyle favourites.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn - RRP £7.99 but £5.59 in Waterstones at the moment
I can't go into too much detail about the book without spoiling it, but it's absolutely amazing and has had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I've been reading it. I can barely put it down at the moment. If you like crime thrillers, you HAVE to give this one a go, and that's an order ;)

Wax Lyrical Oriental Wild Orchid Candle - £3.99
This is just a beautiful scented candle and so far has lasted me a fair old while. The product description says it burns for up to 40 hours and I'd definitely agree with that. I cover the candle with the lid after every use to keep the fragrance strong. It's so delicate and feminine. Just lovely. I've already put an order in to repurchase it, and plan on getting a larger one of the same scent as well.

That's the lot for my January favourites! Give me the links to yours in the comments, or comment with what you liked/didn't like out of my list. I love hearing from you guys!

Nail Art Weekly Project - Week One, An Outfit

Hello my lovelies! Today I am excited to share with you my first post for the #nailartweeklyproject that Danni at gingerbread smiles is hosting. The idea is that each week you are given a theme, and you have to create a nail art look based on that theme each week. Monday marked the first day of the project and the first theme is a mani based on an outfit or item of clothing, so I just had to choose my favourite item of clothing in the whole of my wardrobe: my red velvet leggings.
These leggings are absolutely gorgeous and I actually find them really easy to pair up with a lot of different looks. So wanna see the results I came up with for my mani?

I stuck with OPI's Vodka and Caviar on every nail and then made my ring finger an accent nail using some velvet powder intended for manicures that I picked up on eBay. They're basically a copy of the Ciate velvet powders, just a fraction of the price! I had so much fun with this manicure and it surprisingly wore really well. If you'd like any more information about how to create this, let me know in the comments and I'll go into more detail :)

Thanks for reading!

January 2014 Glossybox - Back to Basics Review

I've no doubt that you guys have read a million and one of the reviews on the disaster of the January Glossybox. I absolutely love my Glossybox subscription. Receiving five surprise beauty products a month really brightens my day, and I can't wait to rip open the box and dive right in to sampling and testing this and that. It's one of the highlights of my month, which is why when it goes bad, it goes really really bad. So let's see what products I received inside my box, the price of them, and my opinions.

The big hype this month was about the box redesign itself. Instead of the shallow, matte looking box with just the logo in the centre of the lid, the whole box is now bigger, deeper and has a glossy finish, and as you can see, the full name is now on the lid. I don't like the box redesign all that much, but really it's not about the box it's what's inside the box that counts.

As usual, the box had the Glossy magazine and the Back to Basics guide to the products inside your box, including where to buy and how much the full sized items are. These are nice touches, although I rarely ever read them (oops!). I did read them this time, though, to try and work out the price the box is worth.

Another change to the box design itself is the ribbon, which now has the Glossybox name and symbol instead of just a plain pink ribbon. I know a lot of people have a problem with this because they used the ribbon inside to wrap other people's gifts as well, which now can't be done. This ribbon is much thicker, so I think it looks a bit messier when you open it. But onto the products!

1. Yu-Be Moisturising Skin Cream - ''This multi-use cult moisturising cream from Japan revamps your skin, enriching it with vitamin E, vitamin B2, camphor and a uniquely high glycerine content. It's an essential for all skin care regimes.''  Full size £13.50 for 33g, I received 2x3g tubes worth £2.45, however it clearly states on the tube that these are testers and so are not intended for sale whatsoever, so the actual worth is £0.00

2. Anatominals Puffy The Eye Bag Slayer Wake-Up Under Eye Patches''Looking like the walking dead? These under eye patches by Anatomicals will help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and revitalise the delicate skin around your eyes!'' Full size £6.00 for 3 pack, I received a 2 pack worth £4.00

3. Balance Me Super toning body wash - ''With a blend of juniper, bergamot, gernaium and lavender essential oils, Balance me's Super toning body wash is the best way to start your day!'' Full size £10.25 for 250ml, I received 50ml worth £2.05

4. Vaseline Essential Moisture Lotion - ''Is your skin weathering the elements? If so, then you need the Essential Moisture Lotion from Vaseline. Its non-greasy formulation and multi-layer complex absorbs quickly leaving your skin silky smooth and looking healthy.'' Full size £4.99 for 400ml, I received 50ml worth £0.62

5. The Vintage Cosmetic Company Floral Slanted Tweezers - ''Get rid of boring brows with these pretty floral tweezers by The Vintage Cosmetic Company. These high quality, stainless steel must-haves are the perfect accompaniment for every vintage doll's make up bag'' Full size £8

The total of this box is worth: £14.67

So what are my views on this box?
Well honestly I think it's a bit of a disaster. I know the theme was supposed to be "back to basics" but Glossybox promises "a diverse selection of 5 beauty treats that include niche, high-end and emerging brands" and we get given a sample of Vaseline. Let's face it, every girl, their mother, and their dog will have some form of Vaseline moisturiser in the house. I don't consider it to be niche, high-end or emerging. The moisturiser smells like a chemical factory and feels awful on the skin, leaving a greasy film that's unpleasant to the touch. I smelt like a Barbie doll, but not in a good way. In a plastic way. The cleanser is alright but the sample is so small compared to the free sample given away in a popular beauty magazine only a short while ago. The tweezers are pretty but that's it. They're absolutely awful at plucking anything because the tips don't press together properly. The little eyebrow hairs just slide right out. They'll make a nice decoration, though.

In fact, the only thing I'm even a little bit excited about is the under eye treatments. I have dark circles all of the time (darn you stupid genetics!) so I'm hoping this might help a little bit. Plus the packaging is fun and the catchphrases and blurbs are quirky and funny.

The Glossybox team have spent more time on the box design than the products inside it. I feel that this "back to basics" theme was just an excuse to throw all of the old crap they no longer want into the box and ship them all out. I've since cancelled my subscription and am going over to Birchbox instead!

What are your opinions of Glossybox? Or Birchbox? Are there any other beauty boxes around that are worth checking out? Let me know! :)
